Common questions about overtime pay, exemptions, and calculation rules.
Is this tool legally binding?+
No. Estimates only — not legal, tax, or accounting advice. Always confirm with HR, your payroll provider, or an attorney.
Does FLSA apply to everyone?+
No. Salaried employees who meet the executive, administrative, professional, or outside-sales tests are typically exempt from overtime. The FLSA mainly protects non-exempt workers.
How is the 7th-consecutive-day rule applied in California?+
If you worked all 7 days of a workweek, the 7th day is paid at 1.5× for the first 8 hours and 2× for any hours beyond that. This calculator activates that rule automatically when all 7 days have hours.
What about double overtime in other states?+
Use the Custom mode and add tiers like 1.5× after 40 and 2× after 60 to model your jurisdiction's rules.
Are taxes or deductions included?+
No — results are gross pay. Taxes, withholdings, and benefits vary widely and are out of scope.
Can I share my calculation?+
Yes. Click 'Share link' — your inputs are encoded into the URL so anyone can reproduce the result.
Is my data stored?+
No. Everything runs in your browser. We don't have a backend or accounts.
